Saving the best for last, Ford introduced the most extreme version of the GT to date. There are more than a few special edition retro-flavored Blue Oval supercars and the new Mk IV joins them. It harks back to its namesake race car from 1967 and serves as the ultimate track-only GT. Paying tribute to its Le Mans-winning predecessor, production will be limited to 67 units and all will be built by hand at Multimatic’s facility in Markham, Ontario.
The 2023 Ford GT Mk IV follows the GT LM Edition that was revealed in early October as the final road iteration of the supercar. While that one will have to settle for “only” 660 horsepower, the new Spicy Flavor promises more than 800 horsepower. Interestingly, Ford mentions “a unique twin-turbo EcoBoost engine,” without explicitly saying it’s based on the same 3.5-liter V6. We know it has a larger displacement, but we’ll be in touch for clarification.
Besides the healthy power bump, the new GT Mk IV has a different chassis after widening the wheelbase to improve handling. The supercar’s swan track also sports a racing transmission, Multimatic’s Adaptive Spool Valve (ASV) suspension, and a reworked body for better aero. By not having to comply with road car regulations, engineers had more freedom during development.
You’ll notice simplified headlights and no side mirrors, not to mention a wider body with extreme aero, especially the giant wing and diffuser at the rear. Other features include a carbon fiber roof scoop, front canards, and a giant splitter that can double as a snowplow. The side air intakes appear larger, perhaps because the upgraded engine requires more cooling.
Interested parties had to go through the new client application process and get $1.7 million. Ford will handpick customers in the first quarter of next year and begin deliveries in late spring.
