The 2024 Ford Mustang will reach dealerships later this year. There’s bound to be plenty of custom trims to follow, not to mention ultra-high-performance ponies with copious horsepower. Some of them won’t be in dealerships, however, and this teaser from Ford Performance shows off one of them.
In particular, we believe there’s a new Mustang GT3 race car hidden behind this thick cloud of tire smoke. It’s possible that we’ll see the next-gen GT4, but looking very up close we see the top-mount struts supporting these massive wings, extending forward into the smoke. This is a typical GT3 style wing, versus the smaller GT4 wing with struts underneath. Also, the teaser image is from Ford Performance, not Ford, suggesting that this is a race car versus something one can buy on the street.
But hasn’t Ford unveiled the new Mustang GT3 yet? When the seventh-generation Ford Mustang made its debut in September, we were shown a series of renderings depicting the new Mustang race car collection. GT3 is included in the run, along with GT4 but no information on either is offered. Also, these renderings don’t necessarily depict the final design, which is still in development with Ford’s racing partner Multimatic.
The official debut for the Mustang GT3 is scheduled for March in conjunction with the IMSA/WEC Super Sebring weekend in Florida. The event takes place on March 11 and 12, although race car covers can come off days before race day. However, that won’t change the loop at Sebring. The Mustang GT3 will make its racing debut in 2024 at Daytona, and will also bring the Mustang back to the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in nearly 30 years.

“Bill Ford and Jim Farley are drivers and they are fully committed to getting seventh-generation Mustangs raced by customers in every class possible, around the world; it’s a fantastic vision,” said Larry Holt, vice president of special vehicle operations at Multimatics. “I am proud that Multimatic has been chosen to help realize some of that vision with the development of the GT3 and GT4 cars.”
