Alpine broke its 2022 record by selling 3,546 cars or 33 percent more than the previous year. The A110 is the only model on offer, but that will change in 2025. It will transform into a pure electric brand and formalize the “Dream Garage” with a sporty version of the new Renault 5. The hot hatch will be followed by the GT crossover X-Over and an electric successor to the mid-engined coupe. What happened after? Two larger models.
In an interview with European Automotive News in November 2022, Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo spoke about two EVs coming in 2027 and 2028 respectively. He mentioned they would be bigger and would help Alpine expand its presence by entering the US market. Car sat down and chatted with the performance brand’s CEO Laurent Rossi who was willing to share more details. He says the two new models will be SUVs to go up against the Porsche Macan and Cayenne, “more or less.”
Just as the A110 replacement will use a platform co-developed with Lotus, the larger EV could share the same architecture as the recently launched Eletre SUV. Rossi says both vehicles will be around five meters (197 inches) long and weigh around 2,000 kilograms (4,409 pounds). Alpine bosses admit the coupe-style model won’t be a sports car given its weight, adding that only Ferrari (with the Purosangue) is capable of that.
Renault has big ambitions to improve performance because it wants the subsidiary to increase sales to 150,000 units by the end of this decade. That’s roughly 42 times more than the shipments made last year. Entering new markets is projected to account for 50 percent of Alpine’s growth, with 15 percent of total sales coming from outside Europe by 2030. Entering China and the US will help, which is why both regions are being considered for the brand’s global expansion. .
