Andretti Global, an Indianapolis-based motorsports outfit owned by Michael Andretti, announced that it intends to enter Formula One entry in partnership with Cadillac parent General Motors as well as luxury motorsports marque Cadillac Racing.

The Andretti-Cadillac Racing team is currently in the process of drafting an Expression of Interest, which will be presented to F1’s sanctioning bodies when the process opens. According to a press release issued by General Motors, the team intends to compete “as soon as possible” pending approval, with at least one American racer behind the wheel of an open-wheel Cadillac.

“We are constantly developing Andretti Global and its family of racing teams and are always watching what comes next,” said Andretti. “I feel very strongly that we are the perfect fit to be a new team for Formula One and can provide value to the series and our partners, and excitement to the fans. I am proud to have GM and Cadillac with us as we pursue this goal. GM and Andretti share a legacy born of a love of racing. We now have the opportunity to combine our motorsport passion and dedication to innovation to build the true American F1 offering.

“Cadillac and F1 both have increasing global appeal,” said GM President Mark Reuss. “Our brand has a heritage of motorsport dating back more than a century, and we would be proud to have the opportunity to bring our uniquely American design and innovation to F1.”

Cadillac Racing is certainly no stranger to motorsport success with current entries in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship and Pirelli World Challenge. On the endurance racing scene, the Cadillac DPi-VR is racing for multiple wins, podiums, and even championships. The new racer, Cadillac V-LMDh, will be competing globally in endurance championships in the near future.

Currently, Andretti Global includes entries in IndyCar, Indy Lights, Indy Pro 2000, Formula E, Australian Supercars, and Extreme E. The team has won the Indy 500 five times and has four IndyCar championship wins overall.
