Chevy Corvette Peeked at Weird Muffler, Could Be a New 500 HP Model

The Corvette Z06 is at the start of its life cycle, but Chevy hasn’t forgotten the base Corvette Stingray just yet. In fact, our spies have captured a prototype being tested on a public road. While the C8 you see here may look like any other ‘Vette at first glance, a quick look back tells you that something is different about this sports car.

As you can see from the spyshot below, the Corvette Stingray is equipped with a pair of oddly narrow and long exhausts, unlike the quad exhausts typically seen on the standard C8. Is Chevy testing a powertrain update for the Corvette C8?

According to our sources and from reports circulating in the industry, Chevy will be giving the Stingray a power boost for its next update. The exhaust tip you see here is actually an EPA certified pipe, presumably meant to test the C8 powertrain revision.

The extent of the change to increase the Corvette’s power is a mystery at this point. What we do know is that sources claim the power increase will bring output to over 500 horsepower – up from its current 495 hp (364 kW) rating when equipped with the optional dual mode performance exhaust system.

Of note, Chevrolet has provided a substantial update to the Corvette C8 Stingray for the 2022 model year. Changes implemented to the engine’s fuel delivery, Active Fuel Management system, and slightly revised engine calibration. The result was an increase in the EPA’s fuel economy city rating and a downgrade of the highway rating. Mixed ratings have been maintained.

We will continue to monitor the latest developments regarding the expected powertrain revisions for this C8 Corvette Stingray. Our sources claim that the changes will roll over to the 2024 model year, with an official debut in Q1 of 2024.
