Article 115 of the Highway Code strictly prohibits the driving of some specific motorized vehicles to those who have passed the 68 years of age. These means refer to professional guidance. The vehicles affected by the ban relating to this age are articulated lorries and road trains for the transposition of goods weighing more than 20 tons. Then?
Anyone over the age of 68 can no longer get behind the wheel – always for professional use – not even of means such as trucks, articulated buses, buses and any other professional means concerning the transport of people.
Compared to a few years ago, the age limit has been changed. In fact, before it stood at 65 years of age. It must be said, however, that the renewal of the C and D license is mandatory to do it annually after the age of 65 and up to 68.
This is what the Highway Code says in article 115 co. 2b: “Anyone who drives motor vehicles cannot be over sixty-five for the transport of things. This limit can be raised, year by year, up to sixty-eight years if the driver obtains a specific certificate on physical and mental requisites following an annual specialist medical examination, with charges to be borne by the applicant, in the manner established in the regulation”.
Anyone who should be caught carrying one of the vehicles mentioned above, once over 68 years of age, risks a fine of up to 1,200 euros. in addition of course to the definitive withdrawal of the driving license.
