Ford Mustang Mach-E Volume Buttons Can Now Control Temperature, Fans, And More

Support for over-the-air updates means that modern vehicles can get new features along the way. As a perfect example of adding new elements, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has just received a new code which includes many improvements, such as the use of the volume knob to adjust the cabin temperature.

The Mach-E has a 15.5-inch portrait-oriented touchscreen with a physical button centered along the bottom edge of the screen. According to the software update notes (embedded below), users simply need to tap the cabin temperature, fan speed, or heated seat controls on the panel and then turn a dial to the desired setting.

The update addresses an issue raised by Motor1.com editor Jeff Perez in his Mach-E review from 2021:

“I also have a gripe with the climate control settings. Like some other manufacturers (looking at you, Volvo and Subaru), the A/C settings are baked right into the screen, and no matter how familiar you are with Mach-E’s big screen, it’s nearly impossible to change fan speed or temperature without taking your eyes off the road because there are so low on an already long screen. The tactile keys are still superior in this respect.”

There are also minor changes to the infotainment screen display. Ford customized the Home screen to improve navigation through it. The status bar has a new icon. Changes to settings and controls provide easier access to drive modes and software update details. Owners can also select days and times to schedule software updates.

Additionally, drivers can now create personal profiles, and they can be accessed toggles from the status bar.

Ford also has new games to play on screen. Bridge Battle challenges players to build bridges from one side to the other before their opponents. It is possible to challenge the computer or fight other humans in the car.

Parking Lot is a puzzle game where players create a path to get a character out of a busy place.

Mach-E just finished a strong sales year. In 2022, Ford moved 39,458 units, 45.4 percent more than 27,140 units in 2021. Last year, the company celebrated building 150,000 electric crossover units.
