Ford has filed a new voluntary recall, involving more than half a million SUVs produced since 2018. The recall points to a faulty component under the hood that could start a fire.
The recall involved 333,342 units of Ford Escape and 188,436 units of Bronco Sport with a total of 521,778 vehicles that could potentially be involved. The cause of this recall is said to be the fuel injectors, which can crack and then result in fuel or fuel vapor leaks. When in close proximity to an ignition source, it can cause a potential fire under the hood.

According to the analysis listed in NHTSA recalled 22V-859“a cracked fuel injector in the engine allowed fuel to leak at high speed (19L per hour) into the cylinder head, which could escape through the exhaust port and down onto the hot surfaces of the exhaust/turbo system if possible. burn.”
This flawed design entered production on November 19, 2018 (earliest production date for the 2020 Escape) and was discontinued on October 17, 2022 (latest production date for the 2023 Escape and Bronco Sport).
The Ford Escape and Bronco Sport units included in these production dates are part of the voluntary recall.
According to the document, the solution to this is updated engine control software to detect pressure drops in the fuel rail, and a drain tube to drain fuel from the cylinder head’s exhaust port, away from surfaces that could ignite combustion, to the ground beneath the vehicle.
This isn’t the first recall for the Escape and Bronco Sport units. In April this year, the same batch of SUVs was recalled due to fire risk but involved a different component – the engine oil separator housing, which can crack and cause oil leaks.
