The 2024 Cadillac Celestiq is the luxury marque’s upcoming flagship sedan, bringing style, tons of customization options, and advanced technology like SPD SmartGlass to the electric vehicle scene. While customers can control even the smallest aspects of their vehicle’s design, there will be many standard features included in every Celestiq instance, including heated, ventilated and massage seats.
During recently interview with SAE, Cadillac Celestiq program engineering manager Jeremy Loveday provided some details about the interior furnishings of the ultra-luxury sedan. Most notably, all four seats will feature 20-way adjustment, and each will be heated, ventilated and cooled. In addition, each seat has a massage function and features position memory.
“In a lot of luxury cars, you have to sit in the back seat to get the best seat in the house,” says Loveday. “We want all four of the Celestiq chairs to be the best they can be – 20-way adjustable with heating, ventilation, cooling, massage and memory in all four places. But we recognized the challenge of getting the body structure to ‘shape’ around the battery and its occupants.”
Loveday explained that the team quickly realized that using a similar battery pack structure to the Cadillac Lyriq wasn’t going to cut it for the Celestiq, as it would be too tall. To accommodate the battery pack in the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq, the team had to build the vehicle structure using precision megacasting, which in turn allowed the rear seat height to be orientated perfectly with the ultra luxury sedan’s low profile roofline.
With a starting price tag of $300,000, the Celestiq will be handcrafted at the GM Global Technical Center. As far as power goes, the 2024 Cadillac Celestiq uses a 111 kWh battery pack and a dual-motor all-wheel-drive propulsion system, good for 300 miles on a single charge while producing 600 horsepower and 640 pound-feet of torque.
