Traveling on the motorway is relaxing for many motorists because there are far fewer rules to pay attention to and you can also travel at high speed, although obviously you always have to keep an eye on it.
At the moment i speed limits to be maintained on the motorway are 130 km/h, however there are some areas where they have dropped a lot and for this you need to keep yourself informed.
The checks on the motorways started in bursts, the inevitable consequence is the rain heavy penalties for all those who do not respect the limits and commit infringements, of any type and entity.
Changes in sight for the legislation that has to do with speed limits on extra-urban roads and motorways
Italy has followed the example of the European Union as regards the application of speed limits on extra-urban roads and motorways. As strange or absurd as it may seem, there are states where there are no speed limits.
We are talking about Germany which is the only exception, the only area where today it is possible to travel on any vehicle at any speed. However, in recent months the German Parliament has evaluated and is continuing to evaluate the possibility of eliminating the rule and therefore aligning itself with the EU regulation.
What are the speed limits on Italian motorways
In Italy on urban roads you can circulate within 50 km per hour on the roads secondary suburban areas within a maximum of 90 km per hour, on the main extra-urban roads you cannot circulate beyond 110 km per hour, while on the motorway the limit in force is 130 km per hour for cars, and 80 km per hour for lorries.
In the Highway Code however, there are exceptions according to which the speed limits can be reduced on the basis of certain weather conditions or the road surface. Consequently, in the event of rain, the limit goes from 130 km/h to 110 km/h.
Even if on the motorway the limit imposed is 130 km, in some stretches it drops to 100 km per hour. Article 117 of the Highway Code provides for a limit of 100 km per hour for new drivers. That’s why if you fall into this category you have to keep your eyes peeled and Don’t press your foot too hard on the accelerator.
Those who exceed the speed limit by no more than 10 km/h receive a fine ranging from 41 to 168 euros. If you exceed the 10 km/h limit but do not go beyond 40 km/h, the fine ranges from 168 to 674 euros. If, on the other hand, the speed is exceeded by more than 40 km/h but the speed is not exceeded 60 km/h, the fine ranges from 527 to 2,108 euros.
