Human Waste Spills On I-95 In Connecticut Causes Police Car Damage, Chaos

Interstate 95 near Bridgeport, Connecticut, became a slippery cesspool after semi-trucks carrying human waste started leaking Monday night. No one was seriously injured, but the spill caused several accidents, causing police to close the northern route for approximately three hours.

Connecticut Police responded to a report of a truck “spilling an unknown substance” around 10:30 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found the road “strewn” with dirt causing slippery conditions which led to several accidents.

Shortly after the waste spill occurred, a Toyota Avalon lost control and spun into a concrete barrier. The crash was followed by the Honda Civic sliding from two concrete barriers before hurtling across the north lane. Later, separate crashes between another Honda Civic and Honda CR-V followed the first two incidents. None of the riders in this incident were injured.

Just after 11:00 pm, a motorcyclist lost control of his bicycle when it hit a slippery patch and crashed, hurtling down the road. The 36-year-old man was then taken to Bridgeport Hospital. He suffered minor injuries and was later released from the hospital.

The worst accident occurred around 11:41 p.m. involving a truck and two state police cars. The Connecticut Troop parked two cruisers in the median with emergency lights alerting drivers of an accident. As they helped the downed motorist, a Freightliner tractor trailer skidded, crashing into the driver’s side of another semi-truck. It then rolled into the median and collided with one of the state troopers’ cars. The impact pushed the police car forward, crashing into another parked car in front of it.

The police managed to catch the driver of the leaking truck after being contacted by his employer and told to pull over. The 34-year-old from Waterbury, Connecticut, was arrested after police found his 2017 Mack truck still leaking and charged him with reckless driving, driving with an unsafe load, and a dozen first-degree reckless danger charges. He was later released on $25,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 8.
