Latest Fiat EV Teaser May Hint at Electric 500 For US

Fiat continues to tease a debut for the Los Angeles Auto Show in what we believe will be a version of the 500 Electric for the United States. The four most recent images are from the tweet (seen below).

Headlight photo is the most interesting image. It looks similar in design to the European market electric model 500, but the curved shape is not quite the same. The door handle is also similar.

The previous teaser showed more of a nose. Again, there is a close resemblance to the 500 Electric available in Europe. Maybe it’s just the angle, but the bodywork above the headlights looks straighter in that picture.

The current 500 Electric debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2020. Its powertrain consists of an electric motor that produces 118 horsepower (88 kilowatts) and 162 pound-feet (220 Newton-meters). This is enough to reach 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 93 mph (150 kph). A 42-kilowatt-hour battery provided a range of 199 miles (320 kilometers) in the WLTP evaluation. There is also a model with a 24 kWh battery that travels 115 miles (185 kilometers).

Inside, the European 500 Electric has a 7.0-inch digital instrument panel and a 10.25-inch infotainment screen. The center console has a row of physical buttons and ample storage space.

Following the three-door model, Fiat introduced a variant with a small suicide door on one side for easy access to the rear seats.

Fiat has not said which 500 Electric variants will be available in the US. The three-door model with a large battery seems the most likely model to offer as it will appeal to a large portion of the audience. At this time, we can’t rule out other configurations on sale.

The Abarth hot hatch variant of the 500 Electric debuts on November 22. There are no official technical details about it yet, but brand history suggests this model may have more power and better handling. We don’t have details on the availability of this vehicle outside of Europe at this time.
