There’s no shortage of Mercedes-AMG models in development. The automaker’s endless rhythm of new models and mid-cycle refreshes continues at breakneck speed, and we’ll be seeing new car covers soon. However, the two teaser images published by Mercedes-AMG don’t provide many details about the car.
One image shows a cowling with a striking AMG logo and the company’s star badge. However, it’s the second teaser photo the company released today that provides more information. It flaunts the V8 Biturbo E Performance badge often found on the front fender of the car.
The badge indicates that this model will come packing a powerful plug-in hybrid powertrain with a V8 engine. This isn’t a new combination, with the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SE Performance arriving in 2021 pairing a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 and an electric motor. That setup in the car produces a combined 831 horsepower (620 kilowatts) and 1,033 pound-feet (1,400 Newton-meters) of torque. This is the most powerful Mercedes-AMG factory product ever. We don’t know if the new model will pump out as much power as the GT, but it should pack a lot of power.
Mercedes-AMG has several cars in development at the moment, some of which have been captured by our spy photographers. In recent months, we’ve seen the AMG CLE 63, AMG E 53, AMG GT 53 Coupe, AMG GLC 63, AMG GT 4 Door, and AMG S63. Unfortunately, many of these vehicles are months away from being ready. However, we first tested the AMG S63 in June 2021, and there are rumors that it will be closed before the end of 2022.
Luckily, we don’t have to wait long for it to debut. Mercedes says it will reveal the new model on December 6. We should have all the details at launch, including specs about the powertrain. Mercedes posted alongside the teaser that “Something new is on the horizon” and it would be a “new take on a classic.” We can’t wait to see what Mercedes-AMG will build next.
