When the BMW X3 went through the dreaded moose test, it performed well by completing maneuvers at a higher speed than benchmark figures. That said, we expected the same from the smaller X1, but this turned out to be wrong at the end of the latest upload from km77.com.
The 2023 BMW X1 tested by the channel is the base 18d trim. It is driven by the front wheels and uses the most powerful engine in the range. The 19-inch wheel set is wrapped in Hankook Ventus S1 Evo3 rubber, which is a summer performance type.

At a benchmark speed of 50.3 miles per hour (81 kilometers per hour) – which the X3 excelled during its own deer tests – the BMW X1 didn’t complete the maneuver without hitting any cones.
According to the presenter, the X1’s stability control was not working properly, which caused the SAV to lose track. The test driver also tried a slightly lower speed of 48.5 mph (78 km/h) but the X1 still failed.
The safest speed at which the X1 completes the safety maneuver is 46 mph (74 km/h). During this test, the stability control worked quite well. The driver also moves the steering wheel more smoothly at this speed.
Which says, km77.com still praises the X1 and says the smallest SAV performs as expected from an SUV of its size. We can only compare this performance with its bigger sibling. Then again, the X3 is configured differently, especially with an all-wheel drive system which can affect results.
As solace, the 2023 BMW X1 performed well in the slalom test. It was the fifth fastest vehicle the channel tested on its slalom course, equaling the Nissan Ariya.
