Good things come to those who wait. A year after launching its long-range, dual-motor Polestar 2 horsepower upgrade software, the brand began offering the upgrade in the United States and Canada. This adds 68 horsepower (51 kilowatts) and 15 pound-feet (20 Newton-meters) of torque for $1,195.
The upgrade brings the Polestar 2’s total output to 476 hp (355 kW) and 502 lb-ft (681 Nm). For comparison, stock output is 408 hp (304 kW) and 487 lb-ft (660 Nm). With extra power, the EV can go from 0 to 60 miles per hour (96 kilometers per hour) in 4.2 seconds, compared to 4.5 seconds in standard form. Polestar reports accelerating from 50 mph to 70 mph (80 kph to 113 kph) in 2.2 seconds, which is an increase of 0.5 seconds.

Software updates are available over the air. Polestar owns the site where the owner enters their vehicle’s VIN and then goes through the rest of the process.
With these upgrades, the Polestar 2 has the same total output as the limited edition EV BST Edition 270. However, you don’t get another sporty upgrade. It has an overhauled suspension that includes stiffer springs, two-way adjustable Ohlins dampers, and front support tower bars. The car rides on sticky Pirelli P Zero tires.
Polestar only made 270 examples of the BST Edition. Only 47 of them are for the United States. Prices in the US start at $75,500 before destination fees.
For the 2023 model year, the Polestar 2 receives several upgrades. The software upgrade increases the dual-motor model’s range to approximately 260 miles (418 kilometers), which is an increase of 11 miles (18 kilometers). The upgraded heat pump works better in cold weather. Space and Jupiter are the new exterior color options. Nappa leather in Zinc and Light Ash wood trim join the interior palette.
