PT Cruiser With Gullwing Door Is A Wheelchair-Friendly Minivan Alternative

Posted on

Regarding gullwing doors, there are names that automatically become a conversation. The Mercedes-Benz 300 SL would probably be the first nameplate that comes to mind, while the DMC DeLorean from Back to the future fame will be the second. The Tesla Model X and a number of supercars and exotics from Europe will lead the list of modern vehicles with gullwing doors.

The Chrysler PT Cruiser, however, will not be part of that discussion. Well, unless they see this – a 2003 PT Cruiser with large rear gull wing doors is currently listed for sale at Craigslist listing.

As strange as it sounds, this gullwing door conversion actually makes a lot of sense – for all intents and purposes, at least. That’s because this PT Cruiser has been converted into a wheelchair-friendly vehicle. The front passenger seat rolls out of the car using the built-in hydraulically assisted ramp.

Only the starboard side received the gullwing door conversion, which was also assisted by hydraulics. As you can see, there is plenty of clearance horizontally and vertically, allowing for easier ingress and egress. Of note, the wheelchair is secured with four straps.

As mentioned, a converted PT Cruiser is currently for sale Martinsburg’s Craigslist List. The price is $ 8,000 although the listing indicates that this amount is negotiable. It currently has 52,132 miles per hour with the timing belt, water pump, and upper and lower motor mounts replaced at 51,528 miles. New rear lights and battery installed last year. The condition of the exterior isn’t the best; the seller specifically stated some rust on the gullwing door hinges.

After all, what alternative to a wheelchair-friendly minivan can $8,000 buy? If you’re looking for a vehicle that you can share with your disabled loved one, this is a very affordable purchase.
