A rare example of a Ferrari built in 1967 will be auctioned by RM Sotheby’s in the coming days. It can reach a record figure.
The Ferrari Dino 206 S will be auctioned from February 15 to 17 from RM Sotheby’s and it is the last of only 13 examples built with the Spyder bodywork designed by Piero Drogo. This model first saw the light of day in 1966 and was built to participate in the FIA 2.0 Group 4 class, aiming to win over the many privateer teams running different Porsche models.
This car has a beating heart V-6 at 65 degrees designed by Dino Ferrari, before his death in June 1956. The Ferrari Dino 206 S it looked like a smaller version of the famous 330 P3, but with special attention to the bodywork designed by Piero Drogo in his famous Modena workshop. The result is a mix of reinforced alloy and fiberglass panels on a welded semi-monocoque tubular frame. Splendid to the eye and fast on the track, she achieved great results such as a second place at the Targo Florio, a double podium at the Nürburgring and a 6th place at Spa.
The history of the Ferrari Dino 206 S
A production run of 50 was initially planned, but labor problems prematurely halted production. This example of Ferrari Dino 206 S, with chassis no. 032, was sold to Conrad Ferlainoa resident of Naples and former president of the football team, engineer and real estate developer who would later become famous for having brought Diego Armando Maradona with the Neapolitan team shirt, going on to win two league titles.
The car was subsequently serviced at the Ferrari factory in November 1968 before being sold to other Italian owners in the 1970s. In 1979 it passed into the hands of the French collector Pierre Bardinon, a few years later it passed to the well-known Parisian Ferrari collector Jacques Setton. Until moving on to some British tycoons and then to the USA.
He currently resides here and is looking for a new owner. For the first time it is being put up for sale to the public and for now there is no news of its value (hypothetically around 5 million) This sports car was restored by Ferrari Classiche in 2014 and Red Book certified.
