Speculative Renders of the 2024 Porsche Macan Take the Latest Prototype

Posted on

Porsche first mentioned the electric Macan in February 2019 before announcing about a year later that it would enter production in late 2022. However, that is no longer the case as software issues have forced peeps from Zuffenhausen to postpone the EV market launch until 2024. Meanwhile, the German company released new prototype image this week, which has now been reused for speculative renderings by our friends at Kolesa.

Even though Porsche cleverly disguised the prototype and even installed fake exhaust tips just for fun, we can tell the size and shape of the electric Macan. It has production-ready headlights with a sleek yet familiar four-point LED design while the tailgate most likely hides a wide light bar. An active rear spoiler is also visible, as are traditional door handles rather than those that stay flush with the body and only pop up when needed.

Riding on the new PPE platform that Porsche engineered with Audi, the 2024 Macan will be offered at launch in dual-motor and all-wheel drive configurations. It has been developed to accommodate a 100 kWh battery pack with a usable capacity of 96 to 98 kWh and fast charging support of over 270 kW. It takes about 25 minutes to charge the battery from 5 to 80 percent thanks to the 800V electrical architecture.

As much as 603 horsepower and 738 pound-feet (1,000 Newton-meters) of torque are promised, presumably for a Macan Turbo or something. Porsche has promised its first electric crossover will be “the sportiest model in its segment” thanks to its “performance rear axle”. The rear electric motor will be mounted behind the axle to echo the placement of the flat-six engine in the 911. This will allow for a weight distribution of 48 percent front and 52 percent rear for better traction.

Other facts known about the 2024 Macan include the use of unequal-length control arm front suspension, a multi-link rear arrangement, and wheels up to 22 inches. Additionally, it will have dual-valve dampers for better comfort and increased efficiency by lowering the car for a slimmer aerodynamic profile. Up to five degrees of rear-wheel steering has been confirmed, along with a rear-mounted electronic locking differential. We also know steel and air suspension will be offered with the Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) system.

Additional details about the Macan EV will be released next year ahead of its 2024 launch. A petrol version will remain on sale for several years before Porsche will exclusively offer a PPE-based electric model.
