Alfa Romeo has started the countdown to unveil its long-awaited supercar by setting up a live stream on its official YouTube channel. Premiering August 30, the unnamed flagship model will be unveiled at the company’s museum located in Arese, Milan. It will be “a creation made possible by the courage and passion of a team that strives to make its dreams come true.”
The renowned Italian brand section of automotive conglomerate Stellantis goes on to describe it as “an appointment truly with history, a unique moment of pure Italian automotive excitement, to be experienced firsthand.” According to a new report published by Quattroruotethe high-performance vehicle will be based on the Maserati MC20 but with a hybrid twist.
2024 Alfa Romeo Supercar Renders by Motor1
While the Maserati supercar can be had with the Nettuno engine before a pure electric powertrain arrives in 2024 for the MC20 Folgore, the Alfa Romeo equivalent will allegedly combine a petrol engine with an electric motor. The 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 and “at least one e-motor” are said to produce a combined output of around 800 horsepower. That would represent an important leap from the gas-fired MC20 with 621 hp. Others claim the hybrid variant will be built alongside its pure electric sibling but nothing official yet.
According to the same report, the new Alfa Romeo is reportedly sold out. Only “a few dozen” would be made for what we can only assume is a seven-figure price tag Quattroruote said it may never be revealed to the public. The supercar is said to take after the 33 Stradale in terms of styling but also as far as its name is concerned.
It remains to be seen whether this will be the last Alfa Romeo model to have an internal combustion engine. Next year, a small crossover positioned under the Tonale will be launched as a sister model to the Jeep Avenger. The latter is primarily sold as an EV but customers can also order one with a three-pot turbocharged 1.2-liter that benefits from mild hybrid technology.
