The 2023 Honda Civic Passes The Moose With Flying Colors

The 2023 Honda Civic in its non-Type R form might not be the most exciting new vehicle to drive, but it’s definitely not stable or uncomfortable behind the wheel in any way. In fact, it turns out that even the regular Civic e:HEV has pretty good road behavior as a recent moose test by the folks at km77.com show.

It’s important to note that the vehicle you’ll see being evaluated in the video above is for the European market but there isn’t a big difference between the European spec model and the model for the United States. It is also worth mentioning that the car is equipped with 18-inch wheels, equipped with 235/45 Michelin Pilot Sport 4 performance tires.

Perhaps the biggest difference between this European model and the US Civic is under the hood. The white liftback has a 2.0 liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine powered by two electric motors and a small lithium-ion battery pack. The Japanese automaker claims this setup has 41 percent thermal efficiency, but that wasn’t the highlight in this test. Finally, let’s talk about the deer test results.

The short version of the story, the 2023 Civic passed the evaluation between cones with flying colors. The top speed achieved was 48 miles per hour (77 kilometers per hour) and that was more than most of the models in the test. At higher speeds, the car remains stable and controllable but the driver cannot go through the bend without hitting any cones.

Test pilots also pointed out that the car felt as heavy as the real thing. And in this configuration, the Civic e:HEV weighs 3,344 pounds (1,517 kilograms), but steering remains surprisingly precise under heavy loads. Combined with the excellent grip provided by the tires, the tested vehicle was also very fast in slalom tests. For detailed results – watch the video at the top of this page.
