The Hyundai Ioniq 6 for the US market debuted last November. The automaker disclosed it with an estimated 340-mile all-electric range for its single-motor, long-range model, and Hyundai has beaten that figure. The US EPA has officially rated the Ioniq 6 with a larger battery and rear-wheel drive with a range of up to 361 miles.
Hyundai hits that mark by giving the Ioniq 6 a very slippery 0.22 drag coefficient. That’s actually 0.1 taller than the Korean market model, allowing the automaker to replace traditional side mirrors with slim cameras. Sorry, America.
Cut | EPA Estimated Range | Combined MPGe |
Ioniq 6 SE RWD Remote | 361 miles | 140 |
Long Range Ioniq 6 SE AWD | 316 miles | 121 |
Ioniq 6 CELL RWD | 305 miles | 117 |
Ioniq 6 CELL AWD | 270 miles | 103 |
Ioniq 6 Limited RWD | 305 miles | 117 |
Ioniq 6 Limited AWD | 270 miles | 103 |
Hyundai has predicted that a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive version with a larger battery will travel 310 miles, and the automaker is outpacing that as well. The EPA rates that variant with a range of up to 316 miles. The US EPA also rates EVs for a combined of up to 140 MPGe, which is placing one Ioniq 6 trim on par with two Lucid Air variants.
Hyundai offers the Ioniq 6 with a 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery pack. The larger battery RWD motor produces 225 horsepower (168 kilowatts) and 258 pound-feet (350 Newton-meters) of torque. The dual-motor version produced a combined 320 hp (239 kW) and 446 lb-ft (605 Nm) of torque.
Hyundai maximizes interior space by giving EVs a level floor. Automakers are further expanding cabin space by removing the knobs from the doors. The automaker packed the car with technology, including two 12.3-inch digital displays. It’s even capable of receiving over-the-air updates for future upgrades, allowing the company to tweak things like throttle response or response to tow.
The new Hyundai Ioniq 6 will be available in dealerships sometime this spring. Hyundai hasn’t announced pricing information for the new EV yet, and we expect it to be closer to the car’s on-sale date. Spring arrives on March 20.
