In recent years, the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) held every January in Las Vegas has become a popular venue for automakers to introduce new automotive technology, or even entire models. The latter will happen thanks to Volkswagen at CES 2023, with an announcement for its “newest member” of electric vehicles.
The key word here is announcement, as CES won’t see the next full electric VeeDub debut. The automaker says a camouflage version of the new EV will be revealed, along with an official name. This leads us to believe that we will see a production (though still camouflage-clad) version of the ID. The aero concept sedan debuted at the end of June. We’ve already seen road-going prototypes sporting clever camouflage, so the official announcement of a production model in new camouflage (under its official name) would be ideal for CES.

If this announcement is indeed the production version of ID. Aero, doesn’t seem to be too far from the concept. At its debut, VW said the Aero concept had a drag coefficient of 0.23, contributing to the WLTP’s impressive 385-mile range. Nothing is known as far as horsepower or torque figures, but it’s believed the Aero will replace the Arteon as VW’s sizable luxury sedan. As for the name of the production, nothing is official yet but it can be called ID.7.
Sticking with the recent world of VW concept vehicles, the boxy Gen.Travel was showcased in September as a design study to look into future mobility. Its gull-wing doors open to reveal an interior that can be configured without driver controls. It’s a completely autonomous way to travel, and while anything is possible, it’s highly unlikely we’ll ever see something like this announced at CES.
CES 2023 is taking place at the Las Vegan Convention Center, with a public day starting January 5 and running through January 8. Volkswagen will hold its big reveal a few days earlier, on January 3. New vehicle along with ID.4 and ID . Buzz will be on display at the VW booth during the event.
