It’s a shame to see a cool car go to waste in a garage. This Subaru SVX has been around for about 15 years but has finally received some much needed detail.
Spraying dust off the SVX shows that the paint underneath is in pretty good shape. The interior is a different story. There are also types of debris and trash. In addition, deep cleaning of the seats reveals how dirty they are. When the work is done, the car shines like new.
The SVX went on sale in the United States for the 1992 model year and lasted until 1997. All of them used a 3.3-liter flat-six that produced 230 horsepower (172 kilowatts) and 228 pound-feet (309 Newton-meters) of torque. , and a four-speed automatic was the only gearbox option. Initially, the coupe was available exclusively with all-wheel drive. Later front drive versions were sold in the United States for less. Outside the US, Subaru offers models with a more advanced AWD system and four-wheel drive.
The SVX design comes from Giorgetto Giugiaro. It has some of the wedge-shaped aesthetic of other creations like the DeLorean but with a large greenhouse. One of the more odd touches is that only part of the side window opens. Inside, this model had the best cabin for a Subaru up to that point, including an asymmetrical center console with a door that hides the radio.
The Subaru SVX came at a time when Japan’s sports coupe boom was struggling to find success. Along with the sale, buyers can also choose from the Honda Prelude, Lexus SC, Mazda RX-7, Mitsubishi 3000GT, Nissan 300ZX, Nissan 240SX, Toyota Supra and others, not to mention offerings in this segment from American and European automakers.
To promote the SVX, Subaru created a particular example being the race car for the PPG Indy Car World Series. It has a body with a purple color scheme that extends from a light hue on the front to a dark hue on the back. The cabin has a matching purple color.
